 WELCOME TO KING'S LGBTQ

Here's the Lowdown on all things LGBTQ from the King's freshers' information pack...

LGBTQ

(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Questioning)

Hello, My name is Cameron and I am your college LGBTQ officer. King’s has an active and welcoming community of LGBTQ students to which everyone is invited - you don’t need to define yourself as lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender in order to take part in any of the regular meetings and events. As well as organising social activities, I am here to help with any aspect of welfare related to sexuality or gender and am always happy to answer questions, no matter how trivial they might seem. You can find me at the freshers’ fair and the freshers’ LGBTQ squash (THURSDAY 7TH OCTOBER, 8PM, CHETWYND ROOM) and I will always be on hand to meet up for a cup of tea if you send me an email. Here’s a list of some of the weird and wonderful things that are available to King’s LGBTQ students:

ENTS:

- The first event on the LGBTQ calender is the freshers’ squash (THURSDAY 7TH OCTOBER, 8PM) in the Chetwynd room. There’ll be free drinks, some crazy mingling, and the chance to find out about all things LGBTQ in King's.

- You’ll receive emails every now and then with details of more upcoming events. These might be film nights, drinks parties, talks, coffee mornings or formal swaps. Formal swaps are usually very popular and a good way of getting to know people from another college and King’s folk even better. CUSU's amazing new weekly club night is at The Cow (just 2 minutes walk from King's, beyond Spalding Hostel) every Monday. There is a pub/bar area for socialising and a newly refurbished downstairs club.

DVD LIBRARY:

- King’s has an LGBTQ DVD library with a really good selection which is ever expanding. You can check out what’s available by looking at the booklets in the bar and coffee shop (also online at www.kcsu.org.uk). If you’d like to borrow one just ask me in person or send me an email and it’ll arrive confidentially in your pigeon hole.

WELFARE:

- I am always on hand to answer any questions you might have about sexuality and gender and the kettle in my room (U7) is never far from the boil. I can pass on the details of other LGBTQ organisations in Cambridge and there’s also a list of contacts on the bar noticeboard where you can find friendly listeners from outside King’s. There’s also a new LGBTQ welfare section in the King’s library in the third compartment on the left.

CONTACTS:

- There is an LGBTQ section on the King’s student union website (www.kcsu.org.uk) where you can keep up to date with things happening in the college as well as checking out some useful links. You can also send me an email if you have any ideas for welfare books, DVDs or things you’d like to see happen in the King’s LGBTQ community.

- Whilst King’s has it’s own friendly community, there’s a lot going on in Cambridge outside of King’s. If you’d like to keep up to date with these events and campaigns it’s definitely a good idea to sign up to the weekly CUSU LGBT confidential bulletin. This can be done by sending an email to cusu-lbgt-listings@lists.cam.ac.uk or by going onto the CUSU LBGT website.
