Lent Bumps

Getting on Race

Congratulations to the Women's Second VIII, who rowed successfully in the Getting On Race to secure themselves a place in division W3. The men's third VIII were unfortunately not able to gain a place in the M4 division.

Bumps

Four King's crews competed in the 2006 edition of the Lent Bumps - two men's boats and two women's boats. Both the Men’s 1st VIII and Women's 1st VIII went up 3 in Divisions 1 and 2 respectively. M1 reached a 45-year high and W1 an all time high. In Division 4, M2 went down 1 after some horrendous luck, whilst W2 went up 1 in division 3.

Tuesday

M2: Rowed over. A speedy start had M2 right up behind Clare Hall, even overlapping at one point, but unfortunately there was some trouble settling into a strong rhythm and they didn't manage to make the bump.

W2: Rowed over. Peterhouse had a very quick start, taking an extra length to get two and a half lengths ahead of W2 - who managed to close the gap back to half a length by the end of the course, unfortunately not quite making the bump by the finish line.

W1: Bumped Sidney Sussex. A relaxed but fast start had W1 catching Sidney by first post corner in a fairly straightforward race. (No crabs!)

M1: No result as the first divisions didn't row today.

Wednesday

M2: Bumped by LMBC IV. Unfortunately one of M2's stroke side blades came apart whilst going around a stroke side corner, sending them straight into the bank and giving LMBC IV an easy bump.

W2: Rowed over. Peterhouse II had a strong race and W2 didn't manage to make up much ground on them.

W1: No result as the second divisions didn't row today.

M1: Bumped Magdalene. Apparently just in time to escape being bumped by Fitzwilliam.

Thursday

M2: Rowed over.

W2: No result as the third divisions didn't row today.

W1: Bumped Jesus II. Another fairly uneventful race, we bumped just before grassy corner.

M1: Bumped St Catharine’s. Bumped a Catz crew which suffered an overbump from Christ’s the previous day. A harder race than anticipated, with worries about losing the bump at one point.

Friday

M2: No result as the fourth division did not row today.

W2: Bumped Peterhouse II. In spite of being pushed out with only a few seconds remaining to the gun, W2 got a well deserved bump.

W1: Rowed over. Rowing as the third boat in the division, there was no-one to bump when Robinson got St Catharine’s around first post corner.

M1: Bumped Robinson. The good results continued, with M1 getting overlap around Grassy corner. It took a long time to make the bump, though, as Robinson held on until just past Ditton. A great race with or bow jumping over the stern of Robinson and back.

Saturday

M2: Rowed over. Chased hard after Hughes Hall but did not get the bump, finishing a rather undeserved down 1.

W2: Rowed over. W2 did very well to finish up 1 overall.

W1: Bumped St Catharine’s. Bumping Catz on stroke 33 was the least they deserved for failing to hold off Robinson the previous day. Catz get spoons, W1 end up 3.

M1: Rowed over. Many believe that we would have caught Christ’s to get blades before a disastrous crab lost the chance. However, up 3 and the highest position on the river for some 45 years is a very good result for the crew.
