May Bumps
14/06/06 - 17/06/06
Four
King's crews competed
in the May Bumps 2006 two men's boats and two women's boats. Both the
Men’s 1st
VIII and Women's 1st VIII went up 3 in Divisions 2 and 1 respectively.
M2 and
W2 both started in their respective fourth divisions, but both
unfortunately
ended up in the fifth divisions.
Wednesday
M2: Bumped by 1st
and 3rd IV. Had M2
managed to hold on for a little longer, they may well have caught a
Christ’s
III crew which suffered a double overbump by the plough, but it was not
to be.
W2: Bumped by Jesus IV. Not a great start, but this was a fast Jesus
crew who
ended up getting blades, so no disgrace at all for a W2 crew which had
struggled to get some consistent practice through the term.
W1: Bumped New Hall. The usual strong showing from W1 resulted in a
cushion in
the first division.
M1: Bumped Sidney Sussex. This took until Ditton, but it was a bump and
a solid
start.
Thursday
M2:
Bumped by Jesus IV. Another crew from Jesus
who ended up getting blades, taking a King’s crew out in the
process.
W2: Overbumped by Newnham IV. It’s the taking part that
counts.
W1: Bumped Selwyn. Job done, but a tough third day in store with a
strong 1st
and 3rd crew ahead chasing a weak
Christ’s crew.
M1: Rowed over. Chasing CCAT, suffered a crab along the reach. 100m
more river
and maybe the bump would have been made.
Friday
M2: Bumped by Wolfson II, to end up
at the bottom of
Division 4.
W2: Rowed over. W2 avoided spoons, holding off a Clare III crew until
they got
bumped by Girton III.
W1: Rowed over. The crews ahead bumped out, leaving a row over as the
only
option.
M1:
Bumped CCAT. CCAT ran wide round Grassy and lost
time, but the bump was made on the Reach just after the Railway bridge.
A
wonderful raising of the pace at the end resulted in the bump.
Saturday
M2: Bumped by 1st
and 3rd V. Down 4
and spoons it is. Next year I’m sure the crew will get blades
to cancel this
out.
W2: Bumped by Girton III. W2, boosted by a couple of strong additions
to the
crew, were unfortunately pushed off at an awkward angle and got bumped
very
quickly. Down 5 overall
W1: Bumped Christ’s. Up 3 to finish 14th
on the river, and hopefully
provide a comfort zone in the 1st Division.
M1:
Bumped LMBC II. M1 hit LMBC II very hard as they
crabbed just as the bump was about to happen. LMBC II ended up
perpendicular to
the river bank just before the railway bridge. M1 ended up 3 and are
now at 6
th
in Division 2.
