Welcome Freshers!
People often say that picking your college doesn’t matter all that much. Ignore these people: they probably go to inferior colleges and cannot be trusted.
Welcome to King’s: you’ve just hit the college jackpot.
About King’s
The King’s College of Our Lady and St Nicolas in Cambridge was founded in 1441 by Henry VI. That's why there's a big statue of him in the centre of front court, and why there's a college song called "Rex Henricus". Since 1441, the college has gone from an old-Etonian finishing school to one of the most inclusive, diverse and intellectually stimulating colleges in the world (via a brief period as Soviet spy-recruitment camp). Sadly, since foundation we’ve lost our initial immunity from having to take exams. Nearly everything else has improved however, and you’ll still get to receive your degree before any other students in the university: King’s students take precedence, naturally.
About KCSU
KCSU is the representative body of the undergrads at King’s. We organise loads of college events and entertainments, we fund all the college’s sports teams and societies, we represent undergraduates’ interests to college and to the university via CUSU, and we campaign on your behalf for whatever you want. KCSU is essentially a powerful, well funded organisation that exists to do whatever undergraduates want it to. In order to take full advantage of your time in King's it's essential that you get involved in KCSU's decision-making process so that it's providing the services you want, and fighting for the things you care about.
About this site
Over the next few weeks, this site will be updated with all the events KCSU is putting on over Freshers Week as well as more info about all the different college amenities and societies... in theory. Remember, KCSU is run by students just like you, and so it's greatest weakness is organisational ineptitude (if you think you can do better, why not stand in the elections for Exec positions...?), but that's the plan.
In the meantime, please do direct any questions or queries you have before arriving at King's to the friendly KCSU Exec, either via their email addresses (find em in the sidebar under "Your Exec") or through our lovely new Facebook page. In the mean time, enjoy the rest of your summer. We're looking forward to meeting you.
Lots of love,
KCSU
